International Year of Plant Health 2020 – IYPH

The United Nations has declared 2020 as the International Year of Plant Health (IYPH). The year is a once in a lifetime opportunity to raise global awareness on how plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment, and boost economic development.

The campaign is extensive, launched in Rome in December 2019, IYPH 2020 will be filled with events, exhibitions, conferences, contests and more; with the aim to raise awareness of the universal theme – Protecting Plants, Protecting Life. The international Plant Health Conference will be held in Helsinki, Finland from 5 – 8th October 2020. For more information and details on IYPH 2020 visit: http://www.fao.org/plant-health-2020

The definition of Plant Health (as per the IYPH): “Plant Health is usually considered the discipline that uses a range of measures to control and prevent pest, weeds and diseases causing organisms to spread into new areas, especially through human interaction such as international trade.”
