Thrips (Blaaspootjie) are minute, slender insects which feed on fruit tree flowers, pollen, fruit and leaves. Damage is caused by the puncturing of plant cells and feeling on cell contents resulting in epidermis cells collapsing.

WHAT DRIVES THE THRIPS LIFE CYCLE?

Thrips feed on new and soft plant material, and they do not like hardened older plant parts.

WHAT TIME OF THE YEAR IS THE BEST TO TARGET THRIPS?

Population control should be targeted at the winter flush (June/July) early fruit set (September/October) and early fruit development (November/December).
